We can connect rock nerds and Melton lovers all over the world.
How you ask? I'm glad you asked ;-)
Find a rock, anywhere: on your vacation, walking your dog, stashed in a box, sitting on your bookshelf, or on a hike down a slot canyon. Use this scale bar, or #meltontracker, to take a picture with your rock.
You need the scale bar ( you could use a penny or your shoe/foot too for scale) in the photo with your rock so others get a sense of the size. Don't forget your scale bar! As you can tell by the scale bar, the length of this rock is about 1.5 inches. Scales are so handy!
Take a photo of your rock with the scale bar. My photo over there to the left, could be better. I focused on the scale bar for this blog post, but you should really focus on the rock. See how the rock is a little blurry? We don't want that. Keep your rock in focus.
Classify your rock as an Iggy (igneous rock), Seddy (sedimentary rock), or Met (metamorphic rock), based upon your observations. You may not be correct in your classification, but the fun is in the trying. Also, share if the rock is "float" or "in-situ". See the #meltontracker page for guidance on that!
Share your rock with me via email: drjakrobinson@gmail.com and/or share online using the hashtag #meltontracker on Facebook or Instagram. When you share, send or post the following.
location of your rock
whether your rock is float or in-situ
rock classfication: Iggy, Seddy, or Met
use hashtag #meltontracker
Feel free to post any other pictures with the rock that give us a sense of your location. Even if it is in your refrigerator. This happens in my house!
Here is an example!

I'll search for the #meltontracker hashtag every day (make sure your post is public!) and repost what you share. If you share with me via email, I will share your rocks online. If your cute face is in the photo, just give me permission to share or I am happy to insert an emoji to protect your privacy. In a few weeks search the #meltontracker and see what rock nerds are sharing!
Next week, I will share this new campaign online with followers on socials. Book 2 will also continue this new campaign.
**psssst: Book 2 went to my Editor last Friday!!! Huzzah!
As always, thank you for following Melton's adventures in Rocklorien and on bookshelves. You are the best. I can't wait to see your rocks!!
Rock on!
~Dr. JAK
