1. Have a Scale ready
Find a "scale" that best fits the rock you found. It can be a coin, person, the #meltontracker scale bar, a pencil, or your foot. Anything that shows the size of your rock.
2. Take a photo
Make sure the "scale" you chose is in the frame of your camera. Take a photo of your rock AND the scale.
3. Rock Connection
Decide if your rock is "float" or "in-situ".
The term "float" means you didn't carve or pull the rock out of a rock wall or road cut. You are not sure where it is from.
The term "in-situ" means you found it in its original place, you carved/chunked it out of rock wall or roadcut.
4. Classify Your Rock
Make observations!
Decide if your rock is an Iggy (Igneous), Met (Metamorphic), or a Seddy (Sedimentary).
5. Share!
Share your rock with me! Email: drjakrobinson@gmail.com
or Post on social media using #meltontracker.
Include in your post: Location (city, state, country), rock connection, and rock type.
